Patrick Raymon McGoldrick, former CEO and Managing Director of Tata Technologies, has significantly reduced his holding in the engineering and digital services company, selling shares worth nearly ₹165 crore through block deals on the BSE. McGoldrick sold 21 lakh shares, equivalent to a 0.51% stake, in four tranches at an average price of ₹785 per share, taking the total transaction value to ₹164.85 crore.
Following the transaction, McGoldrick’s stake in Tata Technologies fell from 1.13% to 0.62%. The shares attracted prominent institutional buyers, including ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund, Kotak Mahindra Mutual Fund, 360 ONE Asset Management and Carnelian Asset Management & Advisors, demonstrating institutional interest in the company despite the sizeable secondary-market transaction.
McGoldrick has a long association with Tata Technologies, having served the company for around two decades before retiring as CEO and MD in September 2014. He played an important role during the formative years of the Tata Group’s engineering services business. He is currently associated with RNT Associates International as an executive director.
The transaction comes at an important stage for Tata Technologies. The Pune-headquartered company, which listed on Indian stock exchanges in November 2023, provides product engineering and digital services, particularly to automotive and manufacturing companies. The business is seeking to benefit as global manufacturers increase investments in electric vehicles, software-defined products and outsourced engineering.
While a large stake sale by a former executive can attract market attention, the identity of the buyers provides important context. The transaction effectively transferred shares to major professional investment managers rather than simply releasing them into the open market. Tata Technologies shares closed at ₹799.85 on the BSE following the block deal, down 0.59%, suggesting the market absorbed the sizeable transaction with relatively limited immediate price disruption.
