Alibaba has introduced “Happy Oyster,” a next-generation artificial intelligence model capable of generating interactive 3D environments and dynamic video experiences from simple text prompts. The launch signals the company’s growing push into advanced AI-driven content creation and immersive computing.
Unlike traditional video generation tools that follow a static prompt-to-output process, Happy Oyster is designed to operate in real time. The model continuously responds to user inputs, allowing scenes to evolve dynamically with changes in direction, storytelling, and camera movement as instructions are updated.
The announcement comes amid intensifying competition in the AI video space, with players like Tencent also advancing similar capabilities through its HY-World models.
Real-Time Interaction and Expanding Virtual Worlds
Alibaba said the model operates through two primary modes—Directing and Wandering—each aimed at enhancing user control and immersion.
In Directing mode, Happy Oyster creates a continuously running virtual environment where elements such as lighting, motion, and physics remain consistent over time. Users can intervene at any stage using text, voice, or image prompts to modify scenes, adjust camera angles, or influence character actions in real time.
Wandering mode, on the other hand, enables users to explore AI-generated environments from a first-person perspective. Starting from a single prompt, the model builds an expandable world that users can navigate freely, with the system maintaining visual and logical consistency as the environment grows.
Applications Across Media and Gaming
The company highlighted several potential use cases for the model, including real-time film production, rapid storyboarding, and the creation of interactive content where narratives evolve based on user input. In gaming, the technology could allow developers to generate playable environments with coherent storylines and physics-driven interactions directly from prompts.
Happy Oyster supports multimodal inputs and can produce synchronized audio-visual outputs. Currently, the Directing mode can generate videos of up to three minutes at resolutions of 480p and 720p, while Wandering mode supports shorter one-minute experiences at 480p. Alibaba has made the model available through an early access program, with users able to join a waitlist for testing.
