Avantel has secured a ₹28.2 crore contract from the Indian Coast Guard to supply, install, commission, and maintain satellite communication products for maritime defence operations.
The contract, awarded by the Coast Guard Headquarters, is scheduled for completion by August 2027 and includes annual comprehensive maintenance support for the Satcom systems.
The deal underscores growing investment by India’s defence establishment in strengthening secure maritime communications and surveillance infrastructure amid rising strategic focus on coastal security and the Indian Ocean region.
Satellite communication systems are increasingly becoming critical components of maritime defence operations because they enable secure, long-range connectivity for surveillance coordination, operational command, and mission-critical communications in remote or challenging environments where terrestrial networks may not be available.
The Indian Coast Guard, which operates under the Ministry of Defence, plays a key role in maritime law enforcement, coastal security, surveillance, anti-smuggling operations, and search-and-rescue missions across India’s territorial waters.
Siddhartha Abburi said the order strengthens the company’s position in defence communication technologies and reflects customer confidence in its ability to deliver reliable Satcom solutions for maritime operations.
The contract also highlights the continued expansion of India’s domestic defence electronics and communications ecosystem under initiatives such as “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat,” which aim to reduce dependence on imported military technologies and build indigenous defence manufacturing capacity.
Avantel has increasingly focused on defence communications, wireless systems, radar technologies, and satellite networking solutions for Indian military and aerospace applications.
The award comes amid a broader push by India to modernize maritime domain awareness and secure communications infrastructure as geopolitical competition and naval activity increase across the Indo-Pacific region.
