The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in India has introduced amendments to the Compulsory Registration Order (CRO) for Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras. This amendment mandates the testing of 'essential security parameters' for all CCTV cameras manufactured, imported, or sold in India. The order, effective from October 9, 2024, aims to ensure that CCTV cameras deployed in the country meet stringent security standards and are free from national security concerns. Additionally, it mandates the submission of test reports from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) recognized labs such as STQC.
The government’s decision ensures that all CCTV cameras deployed in India are free from any national security concerns. It guarantees that the major components of CCTV/video surveillance systems are sourced from reliable and trusted manufacturers. Earlier, on March 6, 2024, MeitY issued a notification for the Public Procurement of CCTV, emphasizing the essential testing of critical security parameters and providing details for Local Content (LC) calculations.
