Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is set to acquire Porsche AG’s automotive and consulting business MHP at an enterprise value of €320 million, or approximately $373 million, strengthening the Indian IT major’s position in automotive technology, AI and software-defined mobility.
The acquisition forms part of a much broader five-year strategic partnership. According to the details announced, Porsche has committed around €1.25 billion ($1.46 billion) toward engagements involving TCS and MHP, potentially creating a significant long-term revenue opportunity for the Indian technology company.
At the heart of the partnership is artificial intelligence. TCS is expected to help Porsche deploy AI across engineering, manufacturing, operations and customer experience while jointly developing automotive technologies and software-defined mobility platforms. This takes the relationship beyond conventional IT outsourcing toward deeper technology-led transformation.
The timing is significant for India’s $315-billion IT services industry. Generative and agentic AI are beginning to automate portions of traditional outsourcing work, while customers are scrutinizing technology spending. Large IT services companies therefore need to move higher up the value chain—from supplying technology talent toward delivering AI, engineering, platforms, intellectual property and business transformation.
For Porsche, the partnership comes amid pressure to improve efficiency as the automotive industry navigates intense Chinese competition, EV investment requirements, tariffs and rapidly changing software architectures. The company has already been restructuring parts of its portfolio to sharpen its strategic focus.
MHP could give TCS valuable domain expertise at the intersection of automotive engineering, industrial consulting and software-defined mobility. That capability becomes increasingly important as vehicles evolve into connected, software-centric computing platforms supported by AI, cloud, data and autonomous technologies.
The strategic message is bigger than the acquisition itself. TCS is using AI to reinvent the traditional outsourcing model. Rather than waiting for automation to erode legacy services, it is moving closer to customers’ core engineering and business operations. If successfully integrated, the Porsche-MHP partnership could become a template for how Indian IT companies transition from outsourcing partners to AI-powered transformation partners.
