Bollywood star Akshay Kumar has urged schools to introduce a dedicated weekly “cyber period” to teach children about online safety, following a disturbing personal incident involving his 13-year-old daughter.
Speaking at the launch of Cyber Awareness Month 2025 in Mumbai, the actor revealed that while playing an online video game, his daughter was approached by a stranger who asked inappropriate questions and demanded explicit photos. The child immediately exited the game and reported the incident to her mother, underscoring the urgent need for cyber education.
Kumar highlighted that cybercrime is now a bigger threat to children than street crime, with online predators targeting young users through games, social media, and messaging apps. He appealed directly to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to make cyber awareness a weekly subject for students in grades 7 to 10, focusing on privacy, safe interactions, and the importance of reporting suspicious behavior.
The actor stressed that digital safety should be taught with the same seriousness as math or history, given the risks of blackmail, extortion, and harassment online. His call has received strong backing from parents, educators, and policymakers as a timely step toward empowering children with critical digital literacy skills.
